Highlights include wild and remote Rannoch Moor, haunting Glencoe, Glen Nevis, Loch Ness, Culloden Battlefield and Inverness, the capital of the Highlands.
DAY ONE
Heading north, savour stunning views of the Forth Railway Bridge and enter The Highlands via Perthshire and Dunkeld, a land of forests, rivers and mountains. View the dramatic pass of Killiecrankie, site of the famous 17th Century Jacobite battle. Explore the haunting ruins of Ruthven Barracks, where the last remnants of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Jacobite army regrouped after their bloody defeat at Culloden. Passing through the beauty of The Cairngorms National Park, we next head to Culloden Battlefield. Visit Inverness, the vibrant Highland Capital before following the shores of legendary Loch Ness to the charming village of Fort Augustus for our overnight accommodation. Tonight you have the opportunity to take a boat cruise* and go Nessie spotting on Loch Ness.
DAY TWO
Our return journey passes Fort William and the chance to explore rugged Glen Nevis (where sections of Braveheart were filmed) in the shadow of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis. We continue our journey through dramatic Glencoe, scene of the infamous massacre in 1692, and over the wilds of Rannoch Moor and into Rob Roy country. Skirting Loch Lubnaig and the Trossachs we pass Medieval Doune Castle (set of Monty Python's "Holy Grail") and the imposing ramparts of Stirling Castle, then on to Edinburgh, arriving in the early evening.
